Programme information

Unless the Dean, on the recommendation of the chairperson of the school, decides otherwise, the PhD degree is conferred on the basis of a thesis and an examination on the thesis.

A PhD student must submit a thesis which deals with a topic from the discipline of interior architecture and which provides proof of advanced original research and/or creative work which makes a real and substantial contribution to the knowledge and/or practice of interior architecture.

A student must submit at least one draft article to a recognised journal for publication, before or concurrent with the submission of the thesis. The draft article must be based on the research undertaken for the thesis and must be acceptable to the supervisor.

The Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at the University of Pretoria is a leading source of graduates in the engineering, built environment and information technology professions. The Faculty is organised in four schools: the School of Engineering, the School for the Built Environment, the School of Information Technology and the Graduate School of Technology Management. The School of Engineering is the largest of its kind in the country in terms of student numbers, graduates and research contributions and offers programmes in all the major engineering disciplines with many specialisations also offered at undergraduate and graduate level.

Admission requirements

Master’s degree in Information Technology or master’s degree in Information Systems or master’s degree in Computer Science or master’s degree in Information Science or relevant master’s degree deemed applicable by the departmental Postgraduate Committee Minimum cumulative weighted average of at least 65% for all the modules Minimum of 65% for the mini-dissertation or the dissertation

Note:  Additional modules may be required in order to reach the desired level of competency
